History

Manhattan in the Roaring 20’s was a time of rebellious flappers and strict Prohibition laws. Musicians, writers, everyone was charmed by New York City. The atmosphere was electric and the thriving metropolis offered opportunity. At this time, a young Samuel Kobrick joined the ranks of hopeful entrepreneurs and lent his own charm to the coffee industry.

Sam’s philosophy was to roast the finest coffee available, deliver it fresh, and provide top-of-the-line customer service. With these goals in mind, he began roasting coffee on Manhattan’s lower waterfront. With dedication, perseverance and personality Sam Kobrick’s reputation for roasting quality coffee spread quickly throughout the industry.

Eventually Sam turned to his sons, Frank and Sonny, to carry on the legacy. In the spirit of family tradition, Frank then turned the business over to his sons, Steve and Lee Kobrick. The 4th generation, Niki and Scott Kobrick, grew up in a coffee family at a time that coffee became a “specialty beverage.” Today, they take their place in Kobricks history at an exciting time.

Sam’s philosophy guided Kobricks for nearly 90 years, and we take it to heart today. We import and roast the finest Arabica coffees, Certified Organic, FairTrade, or through direct relations with farmers. Our coffee is roasted to order and delivered fresh to our outlets. For 4 generations we at Kobricks wake to keep the tradition of craft style coffee roasting alive.
